The objective of the meeting was to formally inaugurate the BOT, bringing together a wide array of Tarok leaders, stakeholders, and community representatives. In attendance were traditional rulers led by HRH Hon. Nimnan Langnim, Ponzhi Zinni and Acting President of the Langtang Joint Traditional Council; leaders of the Ngwang Ishi Otarok Development Association (NIODA) headed by Amb. Nanpon Danjuma Sheni; the Tarok Elders Forum (TEF) led by Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep; Ngwang Ishi Ocha Tarok (NIOT) led by Mrs. Rahab Noma; alongside top government functionaries, religious leaders, youth associations, and delegates from Langtang North, Langtang South, and Wase LGAs.
Goodwill messages and remarks were presented by several dignitaries including HRH Hon. Nimnan Langnim, Amb. Danjuma Sheni, Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep, Arc. Cephas Lar, Brig. Gen. Jon Temlong, and Rt. Hon. Lohlum Samuel. They collectively emphasized the resilience and unity of the Tarok people in actualizing the vision for the university.
The highlight of the event was the formal inauguration of 33 members of the Board of Trustees by HRH Hon. Nimnan Langnim. A prayer was led by Rev. Faman for wisdom and success as the Board began its journey.
During the BOT’s closed-door session, Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep was selected as Chairman, with Prof. Patricia Lar as Vice Chairman, Dr. Clement S. Cirman as Secretary, Mr. Selman Davis Dashe as Assistant Secretary, and Hon. Nanven Nimfel as Public Relations Officer.
The BOT committed to leveraging their collective experience and resources to drive the project forward. They also endorsed the proposed university site located at Shiko, along the Langtang North–Zamko–Mabudi road. The 82-hectare site was chosen for its accessibility, favorable topography, and security.
Two potential names were proposed for CAC registration: Lowland Hills University, Langtang and Union University, Langtang.
The Board also outlined funding strategies which include fundraising, contributions from the three LGAs, traditional councils, associations, political office holders, and potential support from international bodies and philanthropists.
To guide the process, Prof. Nanven Gambo, Vice Chancellor of Karl Kumm University, Vom, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the steps and requirements for establishing a university in Nigeria. The BOT resolved to begin formal processes by 2026 in compliance with Federal Government guidelines.
This inaugural meeting marks a significant milestone in the journey towards educational development and empowerment in Tarok Land.
